Executive Committee

The principal responsibilities of the Executive Committee are to ensure that the mission and vision of the BCO are reflected in our goals, activities and governance.

Amelia Psmythe

Amelia Psmythe has coordinated the Breastfeeding Coalition of Oregon since its inception in 2004.  As Executive Director of Nursing Mothers Counsel of Oregon from 1999-2009, she led Portland's Community Demonstration Project for the National Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign, and helped pass and promote Oregon's landmark Rest Breaks for Breast Milk Expression laws.  Ms. Psmythe currently assists the Bureau of Labor and Industry and the Oregon Department of Family Health with implementation of the worksite law by conducting HRSA's Business Case for Breastfeeding Toolkit trainings around the state, while serving as spokespersons and resource manager for the coalition, including this website.  Ms. Psmythe, her husband Brandon and their two sons live in Portland, Oregon where the abundance of rain feed their passion for whitewater rafting.

Kari McFarlan, MPH

Kari McFarlan is deputy director for Community Health Partnership: Oregon's Public Health Institute.  Currently, she directs the organization's strategic focus on prevention of obesity as well as staff and project management.  Prior to relocating to Oregon, Ms. McFarlan was the Deputy Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowships Program and Program Officer at the Institute of Medicine at The National Academies.  Ms. McFarlan received her bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology at the University of California at Santa Cruz and her master's of public health with an emphasis in health policy from The George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Sheri McLoughlin

Sheri McLoughlin has been affiliated with Nursing Mothers Counsel of Oregon since 2001.  She has served as President of the Board of Directors, as a Board Member At-Large and as a volunteer Development Chair.  Prior to her involvement with Nursing Mothers Counsel, Ms. McLoughlin served four years with the Greater Birmingham (Alabama) affiliate of Habitat for Humanity where she co-founded a campus chapter and served as a member of the affiliate Board of Directors.  Ms. McLouglin holds a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Samford University in Birmingham, AL and has worked as a teacher in Alabama and Oregon.  She and her husband Sean live in Portland, OR with their three (formerly breastfed) children: Katie, Ellie and Jackson.

Katherine Abdun-Nur, RN, IBCLC

Katherine Abdun-Nur serves as a Lactation Consultant at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass, Oregon. In 1999, she led her hospital to a Baby-Friendly designation, the 21st facility in the United States.  She is the Western Co-Chair of the Breastfeeding Coalition of Oregon.  She also serves on a local breastfeeding coalition, is a member of ILCA, USLCA, and LLLI.  Ms. Abdun-Nur works with mothers and their babies in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, provides staff education, community education, facilitates a weekly Mom's group and helps to organize an annual breastfeeding conference in Southern Oregon.  She lives in Grants Pass, Oregon with her husband David.  She is mother to four and grandmother to five.

Sherri Tobin, MS, RD, IBCLC

Sherri Tobin is a Dietitian and Lactation Consultant for the Deschutes County Health Department, WIC Program (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children).  Ms. Tobin has been coordinating the Breastfeeding Coalition of Central Oregon since 2001 and received the Spirit of Service Award from Nursing Mothers Counsel of Oregon in 2008.  She received a BS in Nutrition & Dietetics from Central Michigan University.  Ms. Tobin and her husband live in Bend, Oregon.
