Local Coalitions Across Oregon

For information on forming, building or sustaining local breastfeeding coalitions, see the Community Organizing and Breastfeeding Promotion section of this website.

Why Local?

BCO Local Coalitions are organized to promote and support breastfeeding in a specific community. Local Coalitions are frequently organized by county or geographic area.

Who participates?

Local Coalitions are generally composed of a mix of lactation professionals, parents, maternity providers, and organizational or agency representatives, such as Health Departments, hospitals, and local La Leche League Leaders. Local Coalitions are independently organized and coordinated. They set their own meeting schedules and determine their own plans and activities.

How do statewide organizations participate?

Community organizations such as Oregon Dietetics Association or La Leche League of Oregon, or project groups like the organizers of a Northwest Mothers Milk Bank, can also be members at the local coalition level. In this case, their representatives participate in whichever Regional Steering Committee makes the most sense.
