Why local?

The BCO exists to build and link community partners to support, promote and protect breastfeeding, for the larger aim of breastfeeding becoming the cultural norm in Oregon.

Making effective community change on a statewide, cultural level is dependent on local presence, relevancy, personal relationships, trust and building a track record of meaningful actions.

As the saying goes, all politics is local. While a local breastfeeding coalition might not have political aspirations, their local activities, based on local needs and opportunities, have political impact when organized and linked across a broader area.

We need dynamic, diverse local breastfeeding coalitions to reach our goal.
