International Lactation Consultation Association

Oregon Washington Lactation Association (OWLA)
- Not-for-profit organization of breastfeeding educators, lactation conultants, doulas, nurses, doctors, breastfeeding peer counselors and parents dedicated to supporting the breastfeeding family.
- Presents a free education conference every other month, generally at Portland Adventist Hospital, and often with Continuing Education Credits available.
- Coordinate and sponsor conferences with expert speakers from around the globe.
Physician Lactation Education Collaborative
New resource from the Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington:
- Ten hour-long training modules on a variety of topics: breast pain, insufficient weight gain, feeding the near-term infant, medications and breastfeeding, controversies in parenting advice, multicultural aspects of breastfeeding, latch, blood glucose in the breastfed infant, immunology, and lactation policy development.
- Each module includes: guide for presenters, PowerPoint presentation, culturally-appropriate photographs and bibliography from peer reviewed publications, topic outline, learning objectives, and questions to stimulate discussion on how to improve practice.
- The mission of the Collaborative: increase the incidence, exclusivity, and duration of breastfeeding by providing support and evidence-based education to physicians in hospitals, clinics and other community health settings.
